Valentine's Day recipe: Warm chocolate cake with cherries and sour cream

A sweet token of love from the Nesslerhof patisserie

What would Valentine's Day be without chocolate?

This recipe is a declaration of love in dessert form: moist chocolate cake with a soft centre, fruity cherries and a hint of freshness from sour cream with honey. Perfect for a romantic dinner for two or as a little treat with coffee.

Warm chocolate cake with a liquid centre is a classic – and when combined with warm cherries and light sour cream, it becomes a truly grand gesture.

Why is this recipe the perfect dessert for Valentine's Day?

Because it's quick to make, smells wonderful and every bite is a treat. Soft on the outside, melt-in-the-mouth on the inside – this chocolate cake is perfect for cosy evenings, candlelit moments and quiet moments.

What you can expect:

  • A quick dessert for two
  • With few ingredients, but maximum flavour
  • Ready in 30 minutes (including preparation)
  • Romantic, elegant and pleasantly uncomplicated

The ingredients – everything you need

For the warm chocolate cake:

  • 80 g dark chocolate coating (60–70%)
  • 60 g butter
  • 1 egg + 1 egg yolk
  • 40 g granulated sugar
  • 20 g flour
  • 1 pinch of salt

For the cherries:

  • 150 g cherries (fresh or frozen)
  • A little granulated sugar
  • A dash of lemon juice

For the sour cream:

  • 100 g sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Preparation – how to make sweet happiness

The chocolate cake:

Melt the chocolate coating with the butter over low heat. Mix the egg, egg yolk, sugar and salt in a bowl, then slowly stir in the chocolate-butter mixture. Sift the flour and fold it in. Pour the mixture into two greased moulds and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for approx. 10–12 minutes.

Tip: The centre should still be soft – then it will be really sensual when you cut into it!

The cherries:

Heat the cherries with sugar and lemon juice and simmer gently for a few minutes until soft and aromatic. Then leave to cool slightly.

The sour cream:

Mix the sour cream with honey and chill.

The happiness concierge Tipp

If you prepare the cake the day before, simply store it in the refrigerator after baking and briefly reheat it in the oven at 100°C. This will keep the centre soft – and give you more time for each other.
